Women Have No Place In Comics
Women have no place in comics.
Or at least that was the message given by an editor from the "Company That Shall Not Be Named".
I don't know whether it's ignorance or just plain sexism that prompted the outburst at a fan who posed the question that has become the controversial topic on the comic world's lips, but fans everywhere are left wondering about women's place in comics.
Good hygeine, social skills, and drive. I always joke about my presence in the world of comics. When I'm asked whether being a woman in comics makes a difference, I usually reply with an ambiguous answer, but not today.
Today I'm pissed.
As a writer for not being taken seriously.
As a woman for having my fate in the hands of a pig.
Oink! Oink!
There's part of me that's stunned...like I'm stunned whenever pure ignorance is expressed so vehemently. It left me wondering about all of hard work and furious at the injustice.
Then, a miracle occurred.
An anthology project called "Womanthology", that I had volunteered a story to, did something no other comic book had done before.
It raised $110,000 for charity, using all female creators. A feat never seen before in the comic industry.
Now, the power of women is indisputable and even the money grubbing neandrathal crowd can't argue with numbers!
